We Christians like using our own special vocabulary. Some of this, I suggest, is totally necessary- words like propitiation or Holy to describe key ideas about God and theology, but there are also some words that seem to only be used in certain ways in Christian circles. Season is one of them. As in- you’re going through a particular season of life right now- to mean that you are in a certain stage that will pass in time. The trouble is I quite like using the word season in this way and it sums up where we are right now.

We have just got back from a few days away in the mountains- a great respite from the rush and heat of Santa Cruz. We had a lovely time, but this moment right here made me realise again the season of life we are in at the moment:

You may not be able to make them out, but at the top of the waterfall are some intrepid abseilers. While we were frolicking (another quality word, not particularly Christian) about on the beach at the bottom of the waterfall, some adventurers were preparing to abseil down it. Now I am not saying that I would necessarily want to abseil down a waterfall, just that we’re not in the position to do that.

And while we’re talking about quality words, Roz was very excited by the juxtaposition of a cow and an iguana together on a road that we saw on one trip out.
