Returning to England- looking back and thinking forward

We fly back to England for the holiday on Sunday. This has prompted much reflection and excitement about all the people we’ll see and what we’ll do.

It’s made me think a lot. I can’t believe we’ve been here nearly a year (closer to 10 months, but a whole school year). It’s amazing to think about whats happened in that time- the changes we’ve been through, the new friends we have made, what we have learnt. I think its helpful to think back on what has happened and what God has done- lots of the Bible reminds us of God’s mighty acts in the past and how we can faith in Him for tomorrow. We’re going to do this at Church too- look back on what God has done in the Church over the last year- the baptisms, growth, people who have been saved, the visits, everything that has gone on. David is also going to go through the vision of the Church for the next year. It’s going to be a special service and David has invited everyone who has a connection to the Church to come along. This is the first time this has been done at Church. We can’t miss this so are going to go with our suitcases, then leave a little early to go to the airport.

We have mixed feelings as we get ready to go back to England. We are totally excited to see family and friends, meet some new babies our friends have had, catch up on how people are, eat sausages, see (and swim in for Roz, I may give that a miss) the sea, watch Match of the Day and much more. However we also have questions- do sausages taste as good as we remember? Is Match of the Day still the best thing on television? Will the new babies like us? Will everything just feel really strange? Will we be the same with friends as we always have been? How will we explain what life is like here to friends, family and our Church? Will Christmas in the shops be too crazy? Will I be so tempted by the novelty of being able to buy quality chocolate in nearly every shop that greed will overcome me?

Heady questions I am sure you will agree. God has completely provided for this trip- we could not go otherwise. As he has provided, guided, saved, helped, comforted and encouraged this year. Both for us and the Church. We can see how he has been with us over this last year. We know we can trust him on this trip to England and in the future.

If you would like to pray, please pray for the service on Sunday, and pray for our trip- that we will be able to explain life here in a way that is helpful for people and our Church.

We hope to see you very soon!
